Built on OwnTracks · open source v0.4 · early access

Location sharing for any team you trust.

Family, friends, or crew. Druptrails is built so your location is only ever seen by the people you've teamed with — never sold, never advertised against.

Privacy enforced at the infrastructure level — not just promised in a policy.
No card required. No trackers on this page.
Our promises

Three promises you can actually check.

Not a mission statement — concrete, verifiable commitments. And, for each, how it's enforced rather than merely intended.

Promise 01

We never sell or broker your location.

No data brokers. No "aggregated" resale buried in the fine print. Selling location data is not part of our business model — and never will be.

Promise 02

No ad-tech. No advertising business.

We run no ad network and build no advertising profile from where you go. There is no third-party SDK in the app watching alongside you.

Promise 03

Sharing is isolated at the broker level.

Your location is relayed only to teammates who share at least one team with you — enforced by ACL rules in the EMQX message broker itself. Even a flawed app query can't leak what the broker won't deliver.

The team model

One account. Many teams. Different rules for each.

Join your family, your climbing partners, and your shift at work — each its own team. You only ever share with people you've explicitly teamed with, and you can leave or revoke a team at any time.

Multi-team membership

Belong to as many teams as you like — family, friends, a work shift. Leave any of them in one tap and your location stops flowing instantly.

Role-based permissions

Owners, admins, and members. Decide who can invite people, who can view history, and who can manage the team.

Open, auditable foundation

Built on OwnTracks — an open protocol, encrypted in transit with TLS. Inspect it, self-host it, leave whenever you like. No black box.

Real-time map

See everyone on a team live, on a clean, uncluttered map. Updates arrive as fast as OwnTracks chooses to send them.

History, on your terms

Review where a tracker has been, with a retention window you set per tracker. Team owners and admins control member visibility. Export or delete your history at any time.

Geofencing

Mark the places that matter — home, school, the trailhead — and let a team know on arrival and departure. No third party in the loop.

Why infrastructure-level privacy

A family-tracking app that doesn't sell your family.

In 2021, The Markup reported that Life360 — a family-safety app used by tens of millions — was selling its users' precise location data, much of it from children and families, to roughly a dozen data brokers. Its CEO described data as "an important part of our business model."1

That isn't one company's failing — it's an industry default. Google agreed to a $391.5 million settlement with 40 U.S. states in 2022 over misleading location-tracking practices: the largest multi-state privacy settlement in U.S. history.2 The U.S. Federal Trade Commission has since moved to bar data brokers from selling sensitive location data at all.3

Druptrails is built the other way around. There is no broker to sell to, because the architecture never pools your location for resale in the first place. Privacy isn't a clause we add — it's where the system starts.

We're careful with claims. The Markup reported on Life360's data sales, and Life360 disclosed the resulting litigation in its own SEC filings. We do not claim any regulator has sanctioned Life360 — the FTC's enforcement here has targeted location data brokers, industry-wide.

Privacy you can read

A privacy page modeled on what reviewers reward.

Mozilla's *Privacy Not Included reviewers reward apps that say plainly what they collect, how long they keep it, and how to delete it. We wrote ours to clear that bar — in plain language, not legalese.

Our philosophy
You are the customer, not the product.

— the one promise underneath the others

Every other commitment on this page follows from one decision: we make money from people who choose to pay us, not from people who buy access to where you've been. There is no ad layer to feed and no data partnership in the pipeline.

Druptrails costs money to run, so it will cost money at some point — and we will always keep a free tier, so you can stay on board without paying. When we email you, it'll be because something happened with your account. Not because we want to re-engage you.
